Severed Heads All Up In This Bitch

Title: House on Haunted Hill
Director: William Castle
Notable Actors: Vincent Price
Description: Millionaire Frank Lorens offers five people $10,000 to stay a night in a remote haunted house, giving them each a loaded gun as a party favor.
Year: 1959

This isn't the type of movie that is going to cause you to jump out of your seat and scream. You also shouldn't go into this with the memory of the remake in your head. The minute you see Vincent Price's floating head, you know what you should be expecting. This is not for someone who likes guts and glory, but for someone who likes the classics.

The second we meet the characters, we are supposed to instantly like Nora, the only person there not for selfish reasons. However, I had a really hard time continuing to like her as the movie went on. For one, she seemed to have more mental breakdowns then six hours would normally allow. The second reason she increasingly becomes annoying, is because she screams like a banshee.

Mr. Lorens is the millionaire with plenty to spare. He accuses his wife of trying to murder him, and then starts pulling her hair when he doesn't get what he wants. He's pretty much a big child. His wife isn't much better. She refuses to go down to the party, and is deemed the movie slut by her husband. Apparently she gets so upset that she hangs herself, but she wasn't really dead. But somehow when she wasn't dead, Nora managed to see the ghost of her, which raises the question about Nora's mental stability. Eventually Mrs. Lorens does get killed by her husband's skeleton.

I also happened to like the Psychiatrist, simply for the line that he asks Nora. In the most cheerful voice ever, he asks her if she would like a sedative.
That was beautiful.
